We leave
from Arequipa to Puno, zone located at 294 Km. to the east. ( five
hours from Arequipa). We find the Titicaca lake, unique position
as the highest navigable lake in the world (averaging 3,812 m above
sea, with variations of as much as 2 or 3 meters) is enough to make
it interesting in itself.
This lake belong one part to Peru and the other to
Bolivia. In Peru side you can see the floating islands inhabited
by descendents of the primitive Uros indians. The monumental churches
of the towns and villages along the shores of the lake, particularly
those built by the Jesuits at Juli and Pomata, without forgetting
Puno`s Cathedral, and if your visit coincides with a local festival
you will see the typical dances, with their gorgeous and often expensive
costumes
